Land Acknowledgement

This land where we meet today has been inhabited for generations beyond our knowing. As we meet today, we recognize the historical territory of the Wendat, Petun, Seneca, the Anishnabeg and the Chippewa. This territory is covered by the Dish With the Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the lands and resources around the Great Lakes. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Today, this region is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, including many survivors and intergenerational family members who have been impacted by the legacy of the residential school system. Today, we stand committed to be partners in healing, reconciliation and justice.
